Ronja Sophie Putz
With her solo program sogno/suono for violin and voice, Ronja Sophie Putz weaves a delicately iridescent soundscape in which familiar and surprising sounds move through a corridor of ever-expanding silence. Through experimentation, improvisation, and composition, RSP—driven by a fascination with finding the differences in the common (and vice versa)—has found a sound language that creates a space for permeability, synesthetic associations, and heightened sensitivity. The violin becomes an extension of the body, its sound an extension of the voice. Acoustic illusions, subtle electronics, and a violin prepared with screws and vibrators, which appears sometimes with bloodcurdling intensity, sometimes with almost inaudible delicacy and subtle humor, play with the listener’s perception and open the ears to the borderland between sound and silence.
Compositions by Jacopo Salvatori, Tom Smith, and Graciela Paraskevaidis alternate with original compositions and experimental improvisations. The mood of the violin changes repeatedly, with each piece receiving a new scordatura that alters the timbre of the instrument—the corridor darkens. The improvisations woven between the pieces act as a connecting element, leading from the sound world of the previous composition to the next, yet always treading paths discovered in the moment.
The concert is part of the release tour for the album of the same name, which was released in summer 2025 on the Tonkunstmanufaktur label.
Fabian Jung
Fabian Jung is a musician, performer, and set and costume designer based in Berlin.
He studied jazz percussion at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and the Cologne University of Music and Dance (HfMT). There, he studied under Frank Gratkowski, Sebastian Gramss, and Dieter Manderscheid, among others. The prepared bass drum was a central focus of his work for a long time. There he invented extended playing techniques, for example, by using putty knives and plastic cups, as well as animal toys, to produce sound. Both with the prepared bass drum and on the drums, Fabian Jung has toured with musicians such as Barry Guy, Frank Gratkowski, Simon Nabatov, Phillip Zoubek, Carl Ludwig Hübsch, and Evan Parker. He has performed several times at the Moers Festival.
He was a founding member of the improvisation collective Impakt Köln, which curates various events centered on improvised music and collaborates with other collectives.
He now incorporates both language and performative/theatrical elements into his practice and designs costumes and stage sets for himself and other artists. In 2018, he presented an installation at the Vorwerksstift in Hamburg, which also served as the stage set for several live performances. He collaborated with Luise Meier (dramaturg at the Volksbühne Berlin) on a staged radio play in Berlin in 2023.
